Window, black granite

(Internatioanal Sculpture Biennale of Toyamura, Japan)

My choice of the window is symbolic. We have all grown up with windows, looking out throught them into the far distance and looking in through them into interiors. When looking at my window-sculptures, the viewer never looks only at the sculpture itself but also looks out through the spaces at the landscape or the surroundings, or he looks in through the space into his inner self. The horizontal waves represent the differt levels of knowledge and understanding we reach as we progress through life. The geometric objects on these waves represent ancient civilizations, distant unknown lands and distant stars and planets which man has drawn in many shapes but which are really round. The waves symbolise water and the spaces, air.
